As an activity coordinator at a residential community, I am always on the lookout for classy-looking but affordable decorations to dress up our events. The space I have to store supplies and decorations is small, though, so I have to get things that are compact. These are perfect, because they fit all my qualifications.Although it stretches out to around 30 feet, this string of lights fits into a box that measures approximately 5 x 7 x 3 inches, so it doesn’t take much space in the off-season. I can use these lights to decorate a tree indoors or outdoors, trim a doorway or window, string along a row of banqueting tables or whatever. The strands are easy to fold up to put away, since you just double it over at each bulb, but it does take patience to spread it out.I specifically got it to use with paper lanterns, because the product page said the lights don’t get hot. True to their word, these little LED bulbs don’t seem to heat up the glass tubes like a traditional filament light does. Therefore, it should be safe for us to brighten up our paper lanterns, provided we don’t leave them unattended or lit for more than a few hours. The instructions also caution about keeping a live tree watered and not hanging things from the cord, which are common sense safety precautions.When I first plugged these in, I noticed the lights flickered for a little bit, but then became steady. I expected a gentle golden glow, but the light is surprisingly bright, considering how small the LED units are. You have a male plug at one end and a female plug at the other, so you can string light strands together. I didn’t see an indication of how many, though.I was pleased that the manufacturer included two spare fuses and two extra bulbs in case you have a blowout. There were actually instructions that told you how to do it. However, the drawings are so pixilated it’s hard to see what they’re showing. The little panel for the fuses is hard to slide open. I suggest using a flat screwdriver to leverage it downward.For the most part, I am pleased with this strand of lights and look forward to “decking the halls” this holiday season. Priced at about $20 for a strand, they’re definitely more expensive than traditional lights, but I think the peace of mind of knowing they are not as much of an electrical drain or fire hazard makes them a decent investment.Nice light set available in 9 different colors and 4 different wire configurations.
